'Change is external, transition is internal'
Transition is the inner psychological process that people go through as they internalize and come to terms with the new situation that change brings about. The starting point for dealing with transition is not the outcome, but the endings that people have in leaving the old situation behind.
APAC co-lead Tom is in the 'messy middle' and is keen to hear and share your wisdom on change and transition: the ups, the downs, the in-betweens and surprises.

We will spend the day with a variety of expert speakers exploring these questions & more:
We had such a wonderful time gathering in May in-person, and so we will do the same this November! It will again be in my apartment in downtown Chicago on Saturday, November 2, 2024 from 4:00-5:30. Please RSVP, and I will then send you the details.
At the event in May, we discussed various topics, and one that came up was how to navigate the social impact sector - what are the opportunities, how to explore organizations that not only are of interest, but also are effective and well respected in their field, and many other questions.
I am thrilled to announce that Eric Weinheimer has graciously agreed to be our expert for the day. He is the absolute best resource for this topic and we are so fortunate to host him. Eric was the leader of Forefront, the leading organization around social impact in Illinois.
Here is Eric's bio:
Eric Weinheimer is a Senior Vice President and Philanthropic Strategist for the National Consulting and Advisory Practice at Bank of America Private Bank, based in Chicago, IL.
In his role, Eric delivers customized consulting and advisory services to nonprofit clients’ boards of directors and senior leaders. His areas of expertise include strategic planning, board governance, revenue diversification, and social enterprise. He also has extensive experience in working with high-net worth individuals and families in identifying and achieving their philanthropic goals.
Previously, Eric served as President and CEO of Forefront, a regional association of grantmakers, nonprofits, advisors, social entrepreneurs, and impact investors. He was also President and CEO of The Cara Program, a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive training, job placement and support services to individuals who are homeless and struggling in poverty. During Eric’s tenure, The Cara Program founded and established 3 social enterprises, including Cleanslate Chicago. He has also served as Interim CEO for nonprofits that have experienced significant internal challenges and crises.
Eric earned a B.S. from Boston College and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service. Eric serves on the Advisory Board for Booth’s Rustandy Center for Social Sector Innovation. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Growing Community Media, the Network for Young Adult Success and the Economic Club of Chicago.
I hope you can join Eric and me for what will be a fun and informative early evening. Light refreshments will be served. The timing might lend itself to a great night in the city if you plan a dinner afterward! My apartment has limited seating so first come first served! The May event was a full house!
Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions, or other ideas for future events

November 12, 2024 Chapter event – Circle on Life’s Transitions

It’s an opportunity to reflect on how we adapt and grow through these phases and share from the “third vault” with dialogue, insights and support of our local MEA community.

Immortality: A Pipe Dream or Possibility?
APAC Chapter Lead Chris Zinn recently read 'Why We Die and How We Live' by Venki Ramakrishnan
https://www.amazon.com.au/Why-We-Die-Science-Immortality-ebook/dp/B0CCD4SYDZ
It examines the cutting edge of efforts to expand lifespan.
But might death serve a necessary biological purpose?
What are the social and ethical costs of attempting to live forever?
Chris will lead a discussion on the ultimate mystery and paradox that unconsciously drives us, minute to minute, day by day and year by year.
